Marketing vs. Customer Service

Marketing is anything that helps or hinders the sale or use of your product or service. It could be the way you answer the phone or the way you dress for a client meeting. Marketing is more than just "promotions".

No one is hoping that they will be marketed to each day. Do you wake up every morning looking forward to advertisements, commercials and solicitors? I'll bet my money you don't. Stop thinking that people care about you or your company. Start thinking about what it really is that they care about:

Themselves.

The best kind of marketing comes from a place of problem solving. Think about solving a common issue that your target audience experiences often. Now, reiterate that issue and produce a solution for your potential customers.

Another way to gain attention from your target audience is to be memorable. What do you do that is worthy of a remark? There is a local restaurant that pours water into your glass from a pitcher held above your head. Every drop lands in the glass. It's simple, but people remark about it. That's called "word-of-mouth" marketing - it doesn't cost you a thing and it comes with a testimonial! How great is that?

So, next time you are thinking about doing (or not doing) marketing, change your thought process. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to draw attention to your products or services. Maybe all it takes a clever idea.

Beware of Facebook Impersonators

A friend of mine is traveling the U.S. on a Triumph motorcycle and posting the day's ride/visit at each destination. It puts me to shame. If she can travel on a motorcycle by herself and post to her blog each evening, I should at least be able to update my blog once a week from the comfort of my own office!

Yes, I realize I should be leading by example while telling my clients to update their social media sites and blog (if they have one) posts often. Ironic that it's easy to instruct people on the importance of consistent messaging, but much more difficult to execute on it. It's no problem for me to update a client's website or social media site, but tough to do for my own purposes.

If you haven't been to my website - www.wickedmktg.com - lately, please feel free to visit and see my new site and logo compliments of Bright Theory. I have partnered with these brilliant and talented associates to build and design my client's professional websites when my own capabilities are stretched. All of my clients receive a discount for their services!

You're probably wondering why I titled this post "Beware of Facebook Impersonators". I wanted to share with you a recent experience I had on Facebook. I received a 'Friend Request' from a person I was already friends with. This particular profile did not have a picture. I asked the friend in question if she had created a new profile. She said it wasn't her.

It looks as though someone may have wanted to gain access to my profile by disguising themselves as someone I am connected with. You can see who I am connected to without having access to my profile. So, if you receive a 'Friend Request' from someone you are already connected to that doesn't have a profile picture, confirm with your friend or quietly ignore the request. It could be someone you don't know who is trying to gain access to your profile.

I hope you all are having or had a great weekend! Please provide feedback regarding the new look of my website and/or my blog! I really enjoy hearing from you!
